VP, Consumers Energy Company at Consumers Energy

David Hicks is vice president of renewables development and enterprise project management for Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy. He was named to this position in 2022.

Hicks leads delivery of the renewable energy components of Consumers Energy’s clean energy plan. These include the buildout of 8,000 megawatts of owned and contracted solar energy and 550 megawatts of battery storage by 2040.

Over the last 20 years, Hicks has led teams that successfully developed more than 11,000 megawatts of renewable and clean energy projects. He last served as vice president of business development with Illinois-based Indeck Energy Services. In this role, he led all aspects of power project development supporting a two-gigawatt pipeline of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects, and the Indeck Niles Energy Center, a 1,085-megawatt gas-fired combined cycle plant commissioned in Niles, Mich. on July 1, 2022.

Hicks has held business development, renewable energy procurement and energy storage and project development roles with utilities and renewable energy service providers, including Florida Power & Light, NV Energy, the Diamond Generating Corporation, and FPL Energy (now NextEra Energy Resources).

Hicks holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of California – Santa Barbara and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Hawaii. He also completed contract negotiation and executive leadership courses at Harvard University, Stanford University and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
