Norman J. Kapala

VP, Consumers Energy Company at Consumers Energy

Norman (Norm) Kapala is vice president of generation operations for Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy. Kapala is responsible for the operation of the company’s fossil-fueled, hydroelectric and renewable generating units.

Kapala joined Consumers Energy in 2008 as part of the Karn Weadock generating plant team and has since held increasingly responsible leadership positions. Kapala last served as executive director of fossil and renewable generation for Consumers Energy and was responsible for the operation of the company’s fossil-fueled and renewable generating units.

Previously, Kapala was site general business manager at Consumers Energy’s D.E. Karn, B.C. Cobb and J.H. Campbell generating facilities. Prior to joining Consumers Energy, Kapala worked in engineering and operations management positions at Chrysler Corporation and Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems.

Kapala earned a master’s degree in manufacturing management from Kettering University and holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and U.S. Navy Reserve while earning his bachelor’s degree.
