Peter Guzzo

Peter Guzzo has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, holding various leadership roles throughout their career. Peter is currently the Vice President and Head of Drug Discovery at Variational AI since March 2022.

Prior to their current position, Guzzo co-founded and served as the CEO and Advisor of ConSynance Therapeutics, Inc. from March 2015 to August 2019. During their time at ConSynance Therapeutics, they played a vital role in the development of multiple assets for diseases with inadequate therapies. These assets were out-licensed to industry partners.

Guzzo also worked at Tryp Therapeutics as an Advisor and later served as the VP of Drug Development from January 2020 to March 2022. Peter provided guidance and expertise in drug development strategies during their tenure.

Additionally, Guzzo served as an Advisor at YDS Medicine from April 2020 to March 2022, where they provided insights and recommendations on various aspects of the company's operations.

Before joining Tryp Therapeutics and YDS Medicine, Guzzo worked at SciMount Therapeutics as the Senior VP of Drug Discovery and Development from July 2019 to March 2022. In this role, they played a crucial role in leading drug discovery and development teams.

Furthermore, Guzzo has an academic background and served as an Adjunct Faculty and Instructor for medicinal chemistry at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences from January 2016 to May 2018.

Prior to their roles in the pharmaceutical industry, Guzzo was the Director of Drug Discovery at Albany Molecular Research, Inc. (AMRI) from 1996 to 2015. In this position, they oversaw drug discovery teams and was involved in generating innovative intellectual property and coordinating integrated drug discovery for strategic collaborations. Peter also played a leadership role in business development, securing three license deals and a multi-pharma consortium.

Peter Guzzo completed their education in a chronological order, starting with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Assumption University, which they obtained from 1985 to 1989. Following this, they pursued a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame, and successfully completed their studies from 1989 to 1994. In order to further enhance their expertise, Guzzo undertook post-doctoral studies in Organic Synthesis at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, which they completed from 1994 to 1995.
