Deric Cheng

Governance Research Program Lead & Policy Researcher at Convergence Analysis

Deric Cheng has a diverse work experience spanning both technical and non-technical roles. Deric is currently working as a Policy Researcher & Special Projects Lead at Convergence Analysis, where they are responsible for designing the organization's core Theory of Change and high-level organizational strategy. Deric is also managing the public launch of Convergence for early 2024 and developing a new research agenda on governance interventions.

In the past, Deric was a Co-Founder & Event Producer at Solaura Festival, where they successfully organized a camping music and arts festival for six years. Deric also worked as a Full-Stack Developer, TPM, and DevRel at Alchemy, where they played a key role in the development of a blockchain startup.

Prior to that, Deric worked at Google as an Interaction Researcher & Software Engineer, leading the engineering and product design of Pixel Buds' Translate feature and the prototyping research for next-gen Google Glass. Deric also worked at Verily Life Sciences as a Technical Developer, designing Android apps for tracking the tremor of Parkinson's patients and syncing data for clinical studies.

Deric's earlier experience includes working as a Technical Associate at Bridgewater Associates, where they led the design and development of a user tracking and usage metrics platform, and as a Technical Developer at Edmodo, where they created open-source Android widgets.

Deric Cheng attended Princeton University from 2011 to 2015, where they earned a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Computer Science.
