Sameera Wijeyakulasuriya has a strong educational background in the field of Mechanical Engineering. In 2004, they obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Moratuwa. Following this, from 2006 to 2008, they pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa. In the same time period, they also completed a Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis. Later on, Sameera went on to complete their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, graduating in 2011.
