Dr Jim Walsh

Dr. Jim Walsh serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Conway Hall since February 2011, a venue dedicated to promoting ethics through various cultural and educational activities. With a long-standing background in the arts, Dr. Walsh has also been an artist with Abstract Orkney since September 1999, specializing in painting in the style of Jackson Pollock. Prior to these roles, Dr. Walsh was the Head of Operations at Firstsite from August 2006 to January 2011 and held a Department Manager position at Sainsburys Supermarkets Ltd from March 1990 to July 2006. Academically, Dr. Walsh earned a PhD in Art History and an MA in Continental Philosophy from the University of Essex, along with a BA in Philosophy from the University of Hertfordshire.

Conway Hall

Conway Hall hosts a wide variety of talks, concerts, exhibitions, courses, performances, community and social events. It is also renowned as a hub for free speech and independent thought, hosting suffragettes, political radicals, scientists, philosophers, artists, performers; campaign, charities and other non-profit organisations. Owned by Conway Hall Ethical Society, the building and first opened in 1929. The name was chosen in honour of Moncure Daniel Conway (1832-1907), anti-slavery advocate, out-spoken supporter of free thought and biographer of Thomas Paine. Our Library holds the Ethical Society's collection, which is the largest and most comprehensive Humanist Research resource of its kind in the United Kingdom.
