Matt McGrath currently serves as the Chief External Affairs Officer at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, a position held since December 2024. Previously, Matt held the role of Chief of Staff at the Office of the Chicago City Treasurer from September 2023 to December 2024. A seasoned professional in public affairs, Matt's experience includes serving as Vice President at Edelman from March 2021 to July 2023 and Deputy Commissioner at the Chicago Department of Aviation from May 2019 to March 2021. Additionally, Matt was Press Secretary for the City of Chicago under Mayor Rahm Emanuel from November 2016 to May 2019 and served as Deputy Campaign Manager for Tammy Duckworth's U.S. Senate campaign from April 2015 to November 2016. Earlier in 2014, Matt was the Campaign Manager for Jason Carter's gubernatorial run. Matt McGrath holds a degree from The George Washington University, completed between 1997 and 2001.

With more than 700 attorneys, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office is the second largest prosecutor's office in the nation. The CCSAO is responsible for the prosecution of all misdemeanor and felony crimes committed in Cook County, one of the largest counties in the United States. The CCSAO also serves as legal counsel for the government of Cook County and county office holders and employees, litigating Plaintiff and Defense oriented cases and providing legal counsel on a range of matters.
