Lewis Hammond serves as the Research Director at the Cooperative AI Foundation since January 2022, co-leading research, grantmaking, and strategy initiatives. In addition to this role, Lewis has been the Acting Executive Director, overseeing the foundation’s overall strategy and operations. Other notable positions include affiliations with the Centre for the Governance of AI and the Future of Humanity Institute, where Lewis focuses on technical AI safety and long-term AI development. Lewis has participated in various research projects, including work at Carnegie Mellon University and contributions to the Foresight Institute as a Foresight Fellow. With a strong educational background in Mathematics, Philosophy, and Computer Science, Lewis is currently pursuing a DPhil at the University of Oxford, building on experiences from institutions such as the University of Edinburgh and Uppsala University.
