Nienke Blom

R&D Engineer at Cosmo Tech

Nienke Blom has a long and varied work experience. From 2009 to 2017, they were a Doctoral Researcher and Teaching Assistant at Utrecht University, where they studied waveform tomography with a specific interest in imaging density. Nienke was also a co-developer of the new Philosophy of Sciences course in the Earth Sciences BSc programme. From 2017 to 2018, they were a Visiting Researcher at ETH Zürich. In 2018, they became a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Cambridge, where they worked as a Seismologist and developed data processing pipelines to create 3-D models of the Earth's interior based on HPC simulations and large data volumes. Nienke also conducted fieldwork in remote areas, managed projects, supervised students, and presented at international conferences. In 2013, they were a Research Intern at Deltares. In 2022, they began working as an R&D Engineer at Cosmo Tech.

Nienke Blom attended Het Baarnsch Lyceum from 2000 to 2006, where they obtained their Gymnasium degree. Nienke then attended Utrecht University from 2007 to 2010 and obtained their Bachelor's degree in Geological and Earth Sciences/Geosciences. Nienke continued their education at Utrecht University from 2011 to 2013, where they obtained their Master's degree in Geophysics and Seismology. Finally, they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Geophysics and Seismology from Utrecht University from 2013 to 2018.
