Mark Selcow

Partner at Costanoa Ventures

I’ve been on the portfolio company side of things for 20 years, and have had good experiences raising money from and working with VCs. I saw how talented investors helped—they opened doors, gave counsel and feedback, and offered encouragement and oversight. I also found myself enjoying conversations about their other portfolio companies and due diligence on new investments. After selling my last business, I grew interested in seeing new markets and trying new things and got hooked.

Before joining Costanoa, I was an operator, co-founding and serving as President of two companies, BabyCenter and Merced Systems. BabyCenter was a pioneer in the consumer Internet, grew to become a leader in the online parenting market, and was sold to Johnson and Johnson in 2001. Merced became the dominant provider of Performance Management software for large Customer Service functions and was sold to NICE Systems in 2012.
