Kevin Sullivan

Staff DevOps Engineer at Coterie Insurance

Kevin Sullivan is currently a Staff DevOps Engineer at Coterie Insurance. Prior to that, Kevin was a Principal/DevOps Architect at AmerisourceBergen from May 2018 to December 2021. While at AmerisourceBergen, Kevin expanded the Azure/Kubernetes cloud platform to include applications from multiple business units and projects, in addition to the inventory management solution that was previously deployed as a consultant. Kevin also enhanced the Kubernetes platform by implementing Istio Service Mesh to add observability, traffic management and security to the collection of microservices without changes to application code. In addition, Kevin enabled in-cluster secret management by deploying and configuring HashiCorp Vault, allowing for developers to manage sensitive configuration keys, certificates and other secrets without changes to application code or redeployment, then wrote abstracted libraries in .NET and Javascript for ease of consumption for the developers. Kevin also decreased downtime for in-pipeline database deployments to near-zero/zero using Liquibase migrations, improving on the previously used DACPAC model which could prevent deployments during business hours. Furthermore, Kevin researched and implemented Kubernetes security solutions to address infrastructure-as-code, container image build, and runtime security risks and alerts. Additionally, Kevin increased performance of client applications by refactoring .NET Core configuration service APIs, reducing code complexity and response time by using Kubernetes native capabilities and a faster Node.JS API. Lastly, Kevin migrated serverless functions from the Azure hosted PaaS solution to purely Kubernetes hosted function applications and built a Node.js management API and Angular front end for developers to manage them.

Kevin Sullivan has an A.S. in Computer Science from Copper Mountain Community College and certification from Microsoft in MCITP - Office 365 Administration.

Their manager is John Pinto, VP of Engineering. They are on a team with Spencer Blum - Full Stack Engineer, Bryan Snapp - Technology Services Engineer, and Valerie Velos - Associate Software Engineer.
