Jim Millar has had a long and diverse work experience. Jim started their career in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant from 1972 to 1975. Following their military service, they worked as a Field Claims Adjuster at Liberty Mutual Insurance from 1978 to 1982, and then at Gay and Taylor from 1982 to 1988. From 1988 to 1990, they were a Regional Sales Representative at Hewitt Coleman, and from 1990 to 1994, they worked as a Regional Sales Manager at Alexsis Inc. Jim then became a Vice President at Alexander and Alexander from 1994 to 1996, and subsequently at Sedgwick from 1996 to 2000. Jim then held the position of Senior Vice President at Wachovia Insurance Services from 2000 to 2007. Currently, they are working as a Vice President at Cottingham & Butler, a position they have held since 2007.

Jim Millar obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in History from Appalachian State University, where they studied from 1968 to 1972. Jim later pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Business Administration and Management from the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College, attending from 1983 to 1987. In 2013, Millar obtained a certification as a Certified Financial Planner from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.
