Hayley Cawthra

Specialist Scientist at Council for Geoscience

Hayley Cawthra is a Specialist Scientist and Chief Scientist at the Council for Geoscience since January 2007, leading the Marine Geoscience Programme within the Minerals and Energy Unit. Cawthra's expertise includes marine geophysics, geological mapping, and palaeoclimate studies related to Quaternary sea levels and sedimentology. In addition, Cawthra serves as a Research Associate at Nelson Mandela University, engaging in research and supervising post-graduate students in the African Centre for Coastal Palaeoscience. Internationally, Cawthra has held Junior Fellow positions at Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg and completed a postdoctoral research visit at the University of Bremen. Cawthra holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Geological Sciences from the University of Cape Town, a Master of Science in Geological and Earth Sciences from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and a Bachelor of Science Honours in Geology from the same institution.
