Dr. Shamim Shaikh is a Research and Evaluation Manager at Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau since February 2022, leading a multidisciplinary team focusing on research governance and evaluation. Prior to this role, Dr. Shaikh served as a Senior Lecturer and Research Leader in Health and Community at Unitec Institute of Technology, where expertise in neuroscience and research methods was applied. Previous experience includes managerial and scientific roles at Diatranz Otsuka Ltd, LCT - Living Cell Technologies, and academic positions at The University of Auckland and New Zealand College of Chiropractic. Dr. Shaikh holds a PhD in Applied Biology from the University of Auckland and has extensive training in clinical research practices.

Our Region: Counties Manukau Health (CM Health) provides health and disability services to an estimated 512,000 people who reside in the local authorities of Auckland, Waikato and Hauraki District. The estimated Counties Manukau population for 2015 is 520,140 or 11% of the total New Zealand population. What we do: • Collaborating with other DHBs, service providers, the community and other stakeholders to plan the strategic direction for health and disability services in the northern region and promote the integration of health services • Funding the provision of most health and disability services provided in Counties Manukau through service contracts with health and disability providers and non-governmental organisations • Providing hospital based services for the population of Counties Manukau and some access to specialist or highly complex services for people who are referred from other DHBs • Promoting, protecting and improving the health of the Counties Manukau population through the provision of health promotion, health education and evidence based public health initiatives.
