Derek Armstrong has a diverse work experience in various fields, including economic development, law, and politics. Derek currently holds the position of Director of Economic Development at the San Bernardino County Economic Development Department. Prior to this, Derek served as the Director of Economic Development and Tourism for the City of Henderson, where they were responsible for leading all aspects of the city's economic development and tourism programs. Additionally, they worked as the Deputy Director at the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development, providing support to numerous companies and assessing legislative opportunities and risks. Derek also has experience in the legal field, having served as the President of The Armstrong Legal Group and as a Partner at Arlint & Armstrong Attorneys at Law. Derek has also worked as a Senior Consultant at The JABarrett Company, providing strategic management consulting services. In 2014, Derek served as an Assemblyman for District 21, where they introduced amendments to state law and enacted transformative policies. Throughout their career, Derek has demonstrated expertise in areas such as business development, legal matters, taxation, and government policy.

Derek Armstrong pursued their education at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics. Derek attended this institution from 2005 to 2007. Following this, they enrolled at the William S. Boyd School of Law, also located at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, where they obtained a Juris Doctorate degree in Law. Derek completed their legal education from 2007 to 2010.
