Debra Slone has a long work history in the information science and legal services industries. In 2017, they co-founded Courtroom5, where they served as Co-Founder and Chief Knowledge Officer. In this role, they had deep knowledge of self-representation in civil court, as well as experience in qualitative research and analysis, database creation and management, and library and information science services. Debra also served as Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer. Prior to this, they were a Visiting Assistant Professor at Valdosta State University from 2012-2017, an Assistant Professor (Library & information science) at the University of South Florida from 2005-2012, and an Assistant Professor of Library & Information Studies at Clark Atlanta University from 2002-2005.

Debra Slone holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Library and Information Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature/Letters from Fisk University.
