Brian Nelson has extensive experience in the education field. Brian is currently working as the Director of Student Support at The Covenant School, where they have been since August 2022. Prior to that, they held multiple roles at the same school, including Middle/Upper School Counselor and Director of Academic Resources, from June 2018 to July 2022.
Before joining The Covenant School, Nelson worked at Regents School of Charlottesville as a Mathematics Teacher and Academic Dean from August 2017 to May 2018. Brian previously served as the Dean of Academics at Brook Hill School from November 2012 to June 2017. Brian also worked as an Academic Guidance Counselor and Physics Teacher at Brook Hill School from January 2005 to November 2012.
Nelson's work experience also includes their time at Kaplan Test Prep as an SAT Prep Instructor and Tutor from March 2008 to December 2008, as well as their role as a Junior High Counselor at Canton Junior/Senior High School from July 2004 to January 2005.
Furthermore, Nelson started their career in education as an Admissions Counselor at Oklahoma Baptist University from March 2002 to June 2004.
Brian Nelson earned a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational, Instructional, and Curriculum Supervision from Concordia University-Portland from 2013 to 2020. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Education (MEd) in Counselor Education/School Counseling and Guidance Services from East Central University from 2003 to 2004. Their undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Education with a focus on Science Education, which they earned from Oklahoma Baptist University from 1997 to 2001. Additionally, they obtained various certifications, including Executive Function Specialist from EF Specialists in March 2023 and School Counselor (EC-12) from the Texas Education Agency in December 2004.
