Ratan Chopra

Ratan has over 10 years of research experience in plant sciences and genomics. He earned his B.E. in Biotechnology in India, and Ph.D. in Plant Sciences at Texas Tech University. Ratan has worked on peanut and sorghum improvement at Texas Tech University and USDA-ARS, Lubbock. In the last five years, Ratan has co-led the efforts for pennycress trait discovery and generated genomic resources for pennycress improvement at the University of Minnesota. Ratan has co-discovered many of the genes or mutations crucial for pennycress agronomics, crop productivity, and seed composition. Ratan joined CoverCress Inc. as a Director of Genetics to lead the trait discovery and establish a genomics/molecular breeding platform in 2021.
