Lanny Breuer

Lanny Breuer serves as Vice Chairman at Covington & Burling since 2013, previously holding the position of Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Division at the U.S. Department of Justice from 2009 to 2013, where enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) was significantly increased. Prior to that, Lanny spent a decade at Covington & Burling as Co-Chair of the White Collar, Defense & Investigations Practice, and served as Special Counsel to President William Jefferson Clinton from 1997 to 1999, representing the White House in various investigations and impeachment proceedings. Lanny's legal career began as an Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office from 1985 to 1989 and includes experience as a high school teacher at The American School in Switzerland. Lanny holds a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from Columbia Law School and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Columbia University.
