Janet Hayes began their career in the retail industry in 1996 as a Divisional Merchandise Manager for Gap Inc. Janet spent six years with Nike from 2001 until 2006, serving as General Manager for Men's, Women's, and Kids' Sport Culture. In 2007, they were promoted to Senior Vice President of Pottery Barn and then to President of Pottery Barn Kids in 2008. In October 2013, Janet became President of Williams-Sonoma, Inc. and served in that role until August 2019 when they were appointed CEO of Crate and Barrel.

Janet Hayes has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies from California State University, Chico.
