Grigore Suruceanu

Chief Optical Engineer at CREAL

Grigore Suruceanu has worked in a variety of roles in the optical engineering field since 1989. From 1989 to 2000, they worked at the Technical University of Moldova as a Project Leader, Research Scientist, and PhD student, where they designed, characterized, and studied the reliability of AlGaAs/GaAs and InGaAsP/InP quantum well photonic structures in the 850, 980, and 1310nm wavebands. Grigore also successfully designed, prototyped, and characterized highly integrated optical assemblies, and participated in international research projects. From 2000 to 2001, they worked at BeamExpress SA as a Product Development Manager, managing projects related to the design and prototyping of VCSEL-based (1310/1550nm) optical assemblies. From 2006 to 2014, they worked at Synova SA as a Senior R&D Process Engineer, working on R&D projects related to the improvement of the optical unit for coupling the high power laser beam to water microjet, laser emission power monitoring, and the development of a reliable cutting process of hard materials. From 2014 to 2015, they worked at Lemoptix SA (acquired by Intel Corporation) as a Senior Application Engineer, optimizing the assembling process and scaling up the small series production of the optical engines for laser scanning micro-projection systems. From 2015 to 2018, they worked at Intel Corporation as a Senior Optical Engineer, working on the design, prototyping, and testing of laser assemblies for augmented reality (AR) smart glasses. Since 2019, they have worked at CREAL3D SA as the Chief Optical Engineer.

Grigore Suruceanu completed their Master's degree in Physics from Universitatea de Stat din Moldova between 1978 and 1983. Grigore then pursued a PhD program in Solid State Electronics and Microelectronics from Universitatea Tehnică a Moldovei between 1989 and 1992.
