Maarten Weyn has worked in various roles across a range of industries since 2013. Maarten began their career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Antwerp, where they taught Mobile Communication, Probabilistic Robotics, Digital Communication, and Communication Systems. Maarten's research interests were focused on the exploration and development of multimodal techniques and technologies for opportunistic localization and communication with a strong focus on Ambient Intelligent Environments and Smart Cities. In 2017, they became a Professor at imec and Co-Founder and Research Director at Aloxy. In 2019, they joined Semtech as a Developer Advisory Council Member, and began hosting two podcasts, Nerdland Makertalk and Imec.istart. In 2020, they became Co-Founder of CrowdScan, and in 2021 they joined the EU Agency for the Space Programme as an Expert and de Weynbrouwerij as a Hobbybrouwer. In 2022, they became a Board Member of FITCE.be. Maarten has also served as Treasurer and Board Member of the DASH7 Alliance since 2013.

Maarten Weyn's education history includes a Lic. Informatics from the University of Antwerp from 1999 to 2002, a Master from Hogeschool Antwerpen in the dept. of Applied Engineering - IW: Electronics-ICT from 2002 to 2006, and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Antwerp from 2008 to 2011. Additionally, they obtained an IoT Product Manager Certificate from TechProductManagement in August 2017.
