John Dalton has a long and varied work history in the technology industry. John began their career in 1997 as a Systems Administrator at Tas Access. John then moved to Nunatak Systems in 2001, where they worked as a Systems Engineer. In 2004, they began working at the University of Tasmania as an HPC Coordinator and Senior Systems Administrator. In 2007, they joined LibraryThing as a Sysadmin/DBA. In 2008, they took on the role of Networking Coordinator at linux.conf.au 2009. In 2011, they worked at Engine Yard as a DBA. In 2019, they joined Heroku as a Heroku Data Embedded Support. In 2021, they moved to Salesforce as a Technical Account Manager. Currently, they are employed at Crunchy Data as a Senior Customer Engineer.

John Dalton attended the University of Tasmania from 2005 to 2009, where they obtained a Bachelor degree in Computing. John also attended the University of Tasmania from 1996 to 1997, where they obtained a BComp.
