Jessica Lee, PhD has worked in a variety of roles since 2012. Her work experience includes a Structural Engineering Internship at United Airlines in 2012 and a Research Assistant role at UC Santa Barbara's Mechanics of Microscale Systems Lab in 2012. In 2013, they began their PhD Graduate role at University of California, Berkeley's Ron Fearing's Biomimetic Millisystems Lab, where they designed and manufactured anisotropic collapsible leg spines and a clawed gripper. In 2014, they were a Visiting Graduate Researcher at EPFL's Reconfigurable Robotics Lab, where they designed and manufactured Soft Pneumatic Actuators. In 2015, they were a Visiting Graduate Researcher at Seoul National University's BioRobotics Lab, where they designed and manufactured a bio-inspired compound foot. In 2017, they were a Visiting Researcher at NASA Ames Research Center's Coded Structures Lab, where they assisted in new lattice building-block design. In 2018, they worked as a Mechatronics Engineer at Carbon Robotics. From 2019 to 2021, they worked as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Dishcraft, where they were a key contributor to a 6-month project that started with a product requirements document and ended in 12 units launched at pilots at the customer site. Jessica also created a human centered design that sensed when the first utensil was taken, moved a stack of silverware, and dispensed the next one. Her most recent role is as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Culture Biosciences, which they began in 2022.

Jessica Lee has a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, which they obtained in 2018. Prior to this, they obtained a Master of Science - MS in Mechanical Engineering from the same university in 2015. Jessica also holds a Bachelor's Degree, magna cum laude in Mechanical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara, which they obtained in 2013. Jessica Lee's educational background is rounded out by their High School Diploma from Lick Wilmerding High School, which they obtained in 2009. Additionally, they hold an Engineer In Training (EIT) certification from NCEES.
