Steve Elkes has over 20 years of experience in the media and technology industries. Steve began their career in 1996 as Senior Financial Officer/VP Operations at iVillage.com, where they developed the finance/accounting and HR functions and departments, managed the budgeting process, and was responsible for all legal functions. Steve was then promoted to Executive VP Business Affairs & Operations -Senior Operations Officer, where they were responsible for all business units, Business & Legal Affairs and Human Resources, and developed and implemented requisite policies and procedures for compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Steve also structured and negotiated several public company acquisitions. Steve then moved to SVP, where they managed all phases of the IPO and Secondary offerings, secured in excess of $100mm in four preferred equity offerings and bridge financing, and structured a $20mm plus TV network inkind/equity transaction. In 2006, they became Chief Financial Officer, SVP Business & Legal Affairs at AzoogleAds, where they implemented “public company” accounting policies and procedures for a $150mm cross border Company, prepared the Company for an IPO and/or recapitalization, and increased revenue 30%, reduced expenses 10%. In 2007, they joined TheStreet as Chief Revenue Officer, Executive Vice President Mergers & Acquisitions, where they were responsible for all revenue generating functions, M&A activity, marketing and select business units, and drove a 40% increase in revenue/20% expense reduction across advertising and paid subscription products. In 2009, they became Chief Executive Officer at Daily Makeover, where they improved profitability from a six million dollar loss to a million plus profit on an EBITDA basis, developed the advertising media business from inception to over seven figures, and expanded Company offerings to include licensing products across both the web and mobile platforms. In 2012, they became EVP, Corporate Development at Healthguru, where they managed the successful sale process of the Company to Kitara Media, restructured the Company to a profitable financial position from a $3mm annual loss, and managed the Board, Venture Debt Holders and other stakeholders to bridge the Company to a sale. In 2013, they became a Consultant at Parent Media Group, where they managed the successful sale process of the Company to Lifescript, restructured the Company to a profitable financial position from a $4mm annual loss, and managed the Board, bank and other stakeholders to attain the sale of the Company. In 2015, they became a Board Member at Lifescript and a Consultant at Spanfeller Media Group, where they managed the successful sale process of the Company to Tronc, and managed banker selection, diligence and deal points. Steve also became Co-Founder – CFO/GC/Business Affairs at Curacity. In 2016, they became a Consultant at Collective, where they successfully completed a two stage sale process, restructured the Company reducing loss by over 50%, and enabled a successful sale.
Steve Elkes received their Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from Grinnell College in 1983. Steve then went on to obtain their Master of Business Administration in Corporate Finance from Baruch College in 1988.
