Arefin Ayesha

Scientist at Curi Bio

Arefin Ayesha has a diverse work experience in the field of biology and bioengineering. Arefin is currently employed as a Scientist at Curi Bio since October 2022. Prior to this, they worked at the FDA where they held the position of Staff Fellow (Biologist) at NCTR from January 2021 to September 2022. Arefin also served as an ORISE Fellow at the FDA from September 2018 to December 2020.

Before their time at the FDA, Arefin worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory where they had various roles. Arefin was a GRA (Graduate Research Assistant) from October 2012 to July 2018, during which they conducted research on bioengineering an in vitro microphysiological human alveolar model. Their work involved synthesizing biocompatible membranes and substrates, developing approaches to simulate lung alveoli characteristics, constructing microfluidic devices, and advancing understanding of materials properties.

Arefin's career began as a Post Baccalaureate at Los Alamos National Laboratory from September 2011 to July 2012. Arefin also gained experience as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology from January 2011 to June 2011.

Arefin Ayesha completed their doctoral degree, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nanoscience and Microsystems, at The University of New Mexico from 2014 to 2018. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Science (MS) in Nanoscience and Microsystems from the same university between 2012 and 2014. Arefin completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology from 2006 to 2011. They also obtained a Higher School Certificate in Science from Chittagong College, Chittagong, from 2003 to 2005. In terms of additional certifications, Arefin obtained the following certifications: Responsible Conduct of Research from the CITI Program, A Division of BRANY, in January 2021, NCTR - Investigators, Staff and Students from the CITI Program, A Division of BRANY, in January 2021, and NCTR - Working with Rats in Research Settings from the CITI Program, A Division of BRANY, also in January 2021.
