Susan Benson has a diverse work experience in the field of laboratory clinical microbiology and infectious diseases. Susan currently works as a PhD Candidate and Clinical and Research Lead for the SMART Sepsis Initiative at Curtin University. Their role involves leading multidisciplinary health system improvement collaborative initiatives and developing clinically focused expert systems and quality metrics. Prior to this, they held roles as a Visiting Adjunct at Curtin University, a Churchill Fellow at The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, and a Clinical Associate Professor at The University of Western Australia. Susan has also served as the Chair of Lab Tests Online Australia at LabTestsOnlineAU and as the Clinical Lead for the PathWest WA Perfect Pathology Initiative at PATHWEST LABORATORY MEDICINE WA. Susan has also worked as a Clinical Microbiologist and Infectious Diseases Physician at the Department of Health (WA Health) and as a Deputy Director at Armadale Kalamunda Group. Susan has previous experience as a Clinical Academic at The University of Notre Dame Australia and as a Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician at St John of God Hospital. Susan Benson completed a Diploma of Clinical Epidemiology from The University of Western Australia in the years 1997 to 1999. Susan obtained a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) from The University of Queensland between 1982 and 1988. Additionally, they pursued a Fellowship in Medical Microbiology from the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) from 1996 to 2000. Susan also completed a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians from 1991 to 1997 and a Fellowship in Health Service Management from the Australasian College of Health Service Management (ACHSM) from 1992 to 1993. Finally, they earned a Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, with no specified completion date.
