Anne N. Murphy

VP, Biology at Cytokinetics

Anne joined Cytokinetics in July 2019 as Vice President of Biology.

Anne’s career has been dedicated to the study of mitochondrial dysfunction in the context of human disease and the design of strategies to improve mitochondrial metabolism. Prior to joining Cytokinetics, Dr. Murphy was Professor of Pharmacology at University of California San Diego School of Medicine (2005-2019), where her laboratory focused on validation of mitochondrial proteins as potential drug targets, and the mechanism of action of drugs in modulating mitochondrial function. Her laboratory supported numerous mitochondrial-related collaborations studying cardiomyopathies, while expanding approaches to assess mitochondrial function in high throughput respirometry. Prior to this academic position, Anne was the Director of Mitochondrial Biology at MitoKor (1998-2004), a San Diego biotechnology company that focused on drug discovery toward mitochondrial targets for treating neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases. Prior to this position in industry, she was an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences where her laboratory focused on mechanisms of mitochondrial dysfunction in ischemic injury.
