Edward Filardo has over 25 years of experience in the medical and biotechnology industries. Edward began their career in 1996 as a Research Scientist at Lifespan/Rhode Island Hospital, where they served as Principal Investigator and was responsible for the discovery and characterization of G-protein coupled estrogen receptor (GPER). Edward then joined The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in the same year as an Assistant/Associate Professor in Medicine, where they were an American Cancer Research Scholar and served as a mentor/advisor for Brown Medical Students, Doctoral Students, and Undergraduate Students. In 2003, they began consulting for Abbott Laboratories and Procter & Gamble. In 2012, they joined Radix BioSolutions as Director of Research and Development. In 2015, they became Chief Scientific Officer at GPERx LLC. In 2017, they joined the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine as a Professor. In 2021, they joined Cytonus Therapeutics as Associate Director of Oncology and Starling Biosciences, Inc. as Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, where they are responsible for determining scientific strategy and developing a new form of receptor-based therapy for patients with endocrine-resistant breast cancer.

Edward Filardo has an extensive education history. Edward began their education in 1979 at the University of California, Los Angeles, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Microbiology. Edward then attended UT Southwestern Medical Center from 1983 to 1989 and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Microbiology and Immunology. Following this, they completed Postdoctoral studies in Immunology at Scripps Research from 1991 to 1995. From 1996 to 2013, they attended Brown University and earned an Ad Eundem in Hematology and Oncology. Additionally, they were awarded an ad eundem honorary degree in Cancer Biology and Steroid Hormone Receptors from Brown University.
