In the early 2000s, Jim worked at Symbium Corporation as the Director of Channel Sales and Professional Services, where they played a significant role in sales strategy implementation for new products. Jim also held management positions at Ceyba, directing a team of IT professionals, and Nortel Networks, leading a group responsible for engineering and supporting the design environment within Nortel's Optical Networks division.

Jim Hamilton obtained a BSc in Sciences from Dalhousie University, where they studied from 1986 to 1989. Jim then went on to pursue an MBA in International Management from the University of Ottawa, completing their degree between 1990 and 1992.
