Gerhard Eschelbeck is a seasoned IT executive with more than 20 years of experience in engineering, strategy, and operations. He is the Member of the Supervisory Board at Deutsche Bank and has served as the VP - Security & Privacy Engineering at Google.
At Google, Gerhard led multiple high impact projects such as creating new types of security scanners (Cloud App Scanner and Firing Range). His team researched new types of DDoS attacks and protected trust in digital certificates and mobile Android ecosystem.
A well-known name in the security industry, Gerhard holds a doctorate and master’s degree in computer science from the University of Linz, Austria. Gerhard is known for publishing the “law of vulnerabilities” and is also one of the inventors of the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS). He has numerous patents in the field of managed network security. A regular contributor for SANS, he is the person behind many innovative and successful companies across the US, Europe, and Asia. He has led and steered many multinational teams towards success, and was recognized as one of the most influential CTO’s in 2003 and 2004 by InfoWorld.
With a keen focus on creating and implementing new technologies in modern organizations, Gerhard has shown how technology can go a long way in positively impacting today’s businesses. He has transformed traditional security technologies by delivering them as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions that leverage cloud computing architectures and subscription business models.
Widely regarded as one of the foremost experts on network and system security, Gerhard was invited to present his research in information security to the U.S. Congress and is a frequent speaker at major industry conferences.
