Edie Diaz

VP, Government & Community Relations at Dallas Area Rapid Transit

Edie Diaz is Vice President of Government and Community Relations for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). Currently, Diaz is responsible for managing the Government Relations, Community Affairs and Transit Education team. She and the staff have the responsibility for vast stakeholder group relations and managing DART legislative issues and agendas at the state, federal, regional and 13 service area cities level.

Diaz holds extensive professional experience in urban community development and planning, marketing and outreach, special populations and diversity, government administration, legislative advocacy, program and project management, evaluation, procurement and compliance, and building strong collaborations and partnerships across the public and private sectors.

In Diaz's professional career she spent 15 years working on community revitalization initiatives in Chicago to help inform national efforts of best practices. During her years in Chicago she worked for an urban community development organization supervising projects and monitoring the outcomes across major U.S. cities of Federal omnibus spending acts. Later she took to a career in public policy advocating for early childhood education and facilities development across the state of Illinois. In addition, she served on the Climate Change Task Force for the City of Chicago and presented at international conferences regarding green buildings innovation including the U.S. Green Buildings Council, Greenbuild. She also taught for many years at the largest Catholic university in the country, DePaul University. Diaz also worked for the Executive Office and as a direct report to several Chief Executive Officers at the second largest public housing authority in the country, the Chicago Housing Authority, while the City and agency were undergoing the largest transformation of public housing into mixed-income neighborhood developments in the world.
