Fmr. Judge Roberto Cañas has extensive legal and judicial experience, currently serving as the Director of the Mexican-American Bar Association in Dallas and an Attorney at Lisa E. McKnight PC, where representation in complex family and criminal matters is provided. With a judicial career beginning in January 2007, Cañas presided over domestic violence cases in County Criminal Court #10, earning the designation of Domestic Violence Mentor Court by the Department of Justice in 2013. Cañas is an active member of the Dallas Bar Association, has facilitated the DAYL Leadership Class since 2011, and has held various leadership roles in community organizations including the Dallas County Democratic Party and Operation Kindness. Cañas earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech University and a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Music from The University of Texas at Austin.
