Gail O'Bannon is a seasoned professional currently serving as the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer and Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the Dallas Mavericks since December 2002. O'Bannon co-chairs the Black Employee Network and the Women of Mavs Empowering Network, both employee resource groups. In addition, O'Bannon holds positions as a Board Member for The Dallas Opera and Founder of My Sisters & Me Women of Color Photographers®. O'Bannon has also owned Black Butterflies Photography since September 2008. Previously, O'Bannon worked at Chief and was part of the Advisory Committee for WISE DFW. O'Bannon graduated from the Women's Leadership Institute with the Texas Women's Foundation and holds a Diversity and Inclusion Certificate from Cornell University. O'Bannon's career began in the travel industry and includes roles at American Airlines and Sabre Corporation.

The Dallas Mavericks are an American professional basketball team based in Dallas. The Mavs compete in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Western Conference and play at American Airlines Center under the direction of Coach Rick Carlisle, General Manager Donnie Nelson, CEO Cynt Marshall and Owner Mark Cuban. Since the inaugural season in 1980-81, the Mavs have won three division titles, two conference championships and one NBA championship in 2011. In addition to on-court success, the Mavs are committed to making a difference in North Texas through community programs and the Mavs Foundation.
