Daraja Academy
Jason Doherty has extensive work experience in the education sector. Jason founded and ran Daraja Academy and the Daraja Education Fund after leaving their position as a head football coach and chair of the social studies department at Hogan High School in 2008. Prior to that, they worked as a social studies teacher and head football coach at Hogan High School from 2004 to 2008 and as a social studies teacher at Terra Linda High School from 2001 to 2003.
Jason Doherty attended San Rafael High School from 1988 to 1992. After completing high school, they pursued higher education at the University of San Diego from 1992 to 1998, earning a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in International Relations and Affairs. Jason later attended Dominican University from 2000 to 2001, where they obtained a teaching credential in social studies, specifically focusing on Secondary Education and Teaching.

In Swahili, Daraja means bridge. Daraja provides a transformative and holistic secondary education for Kenyan girls living in poverty and creates a bridge to empowerment, leadership, well-being, independence, and a lifetime of opportunity for all Daraja girls. Daraja hutoa elimu ya sekondari ya mabadiliko na jumla kwa wasichana wa Kenya wanaoishi katika umaskini na huwapa nafasi ya kujiwezesha, uongozi, ustawi, uhuru, na maisha ya fursa kwa wasichana wote wa Daraja.
