Alex Reid

Alex Reid has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. They began their career in 2000 as a Developer at RSD and MITAC Partnership Ltd. In 2002, they ran their own business, Phiz Web Solutions Ltd, where they developed web-based software solutions. From 2005 to 2006, they worked as a Developer at Leighton.

In 2006, Alex joined Newcastle University as an Application Developer and led the development of a project management and workflow system. They also utilized technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server, ColdFusion, Java, and ASP.NET.

In 2010, Alex joined Sage UK as a Senior Developer and later became a Development Team Leader. They managed a team of senior developers, worked on mobile apps and highly scalable API services, and oversaw developments and build environments. Alex acted as a scrum master and collaborated with product owners and stakeholders.

From 2015 to 2016, Alex worked at SolarWinds as an Engineering Lead, contributing to the delivery of analytics and data-driven insight products. They also served as a Senior Engineering Manager, leading a data engineering team responsible for the architecture and implementation of the data platform. Additionally, they worked as a Senior Architect, MSP, focusing on engineering and presenting technologies like Kafka and Docker.

At Wood Mackenzie, Alex held the position of Senior Principal Engineer from 2017 to 2019. They provided technical vision and expertise on various data pipeline and serving projects, including processing with Lambda, Kafka Streams, and Glue, orchestration with Step Functions, and data warehousing with Athena. They also utilized Elasticsearch and Clickhouse for data serving and Kafka for data exchange between services.

Most recently, Alex joined Trustpilot in 2019 as a Principal Engineer until 2022. They are currently working as a Principal Engineer at Dare.

Alex Reid obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computing from Northumbria University, where they studied from 1999 to 2003. In September 2013, Alex also obtained a ScrumMaster certification from the Scrum Alliance.
