Alonso Villicaña

Technical Director - Games at Dark Slope Studios

Alonso Villicaña has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Alonso currently serves as the Technical Director - Games at Dark Slope, where they are responsible for defining game development pipelines, architecture, and tools using Unreal Engine 5. Additionally, they lead the Unreal Engine 5 game development team. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Unreal Engine Game Developer at Dark Slope.

Before joining Dark Slope, Alonso held the position of Lead Game Programmer and Designer at GameCoder Studios. In this role, they were the product owner and responsible for the full game development cycle, including VR/AR, Consoles, Steam, and Mobile platforms.

Alonso also worked at GCAcademy as the Director and Instructor, where they taught aspiring game developers how to make games using Unreal Engine 4, Blender, and Quixel. Alonso conducted workshops and classes on gameplay programming and 3D modeling, which culminated in participating in GameJams and creating games in teams.

Furthermore, Alonso initiated a personal workshop at Ariz Corporation to teach game development in Unreal Engine 4 to high school students. Alonso also provided instruction on basic modeling using Blender 2.78.

Earlier in their career, they served as the Lead Gameplay Programmer at Wozlla, where they laid the foundation for the base game systems and designed and implemented a turn-based combat system. Alonso also integrated version control software into the project and provided training to the team.

Alonso's work experience also includes a role as a Java Programmer at Virtual Inflexion Software, where they were involved in back-end and front-end programming, server and multiuser system management, and responsive UI programming.

Alonso Villicaña pursued their education from 2011 to 2014, studying Computer Systems Engineering at Instituto Tecnológico de Orizaba. Alonso obtained a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from this institution. In 2015, they furthered their knowledge by obtaining a certification in Game Development and Virtual Reality from VGMakers.
