Karen Rommelfanger

Member, Darpa Neurotech Ethical, Legal, And Social Implications Panel at DARPA

Karen Rommelfanger, PhD, serves as a member of the Neurotech Sociotechnical Standard Working Group with IEEE and the Standards Working Group at the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine since January 2023. As the founder and director of the Institute for Neuroethics Think and Do Tank and CEO of Ningen Neuroethics Co-Lab, the first consultancy focused solely on neuroethics, Karen provides expert guidance in neuroinnovation challenges. Additionally, Karen holds multiple positions at Emory University School of Medicine, including associate professor in the Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, and oversees the Responsible Conduct of Research program. Other roles include membership on the Neuroethics Advisory Committee at BrainMind, the DARPA Neurotech Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications Panel, and the Global Future Council on Neurotechnologies with the World Economic Forum. Karen's educational background includes a PhD in Neuroscience from Emory University, a Master’s in Neuropharmacology/Toxicology from The University of Texas at Austin, and a Bachelor’s in Chemistry and Biology from Angelo State University.
