Matthew P. currently serves as a Program Manager at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) since March 2021. Prior to this role, Matthew was a Senior Research Scientist at Lockheed Martin from February 2017 to February 2021, leading projects in mobile health, physiological monitoring, and bioinformatics. Matthew also founded the Chronobiology and Sleep Scientific Interest Group while serving at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from November 2014 to February 2017, enhancing collaboration among researchers in the field. As a Post-Doctoral IRTA Fellow at NIAAA/NIH from December 2011 to February 2017, Matthew researched the neurobiological mechanisms of sleep-wake states and their disruption due to substance use disorders. Earlier, as a Graduate Student Researcher at the Medical University of South Carolina from August 2005 to November 2011, Matthew focused on the role of endocannabinoids in cortical network activity related to sleep. Matthew holds a PhD in Neuroscience and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Molecular Biology and Psychology from the College of Charleston.
