Leo Spaeder has a diverse work experience. Leo started their career in 2007 with the United States Marine Corps, where they held various roles such as Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, Motor Transport Officer, and Asst Logistics Plans Officer. Leo also served as an Officer-in-Charge, Logistics Advisor, Company Commander, and Battalion Operations Officer. From 2014 to 2018, Leo worked as a MAGTF Planner and later became a Student in the Marine Corps. In 2021, they were appointed Deputy Operations Officer. In addition to their military experience, Leo worked as an Adjunct Faculty Instructor for the Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Program at Davis Defense Group, Inc. starting from 2018.

Leo Spaeder has an extensive education history. Leo completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, with a focus on Marketing and Legal Studies & Business Ethics, at The Wharton School from 2002 to 2006. Following this, they pursued a Master of Arts in Political Science at Villanova University from 2012 to 2014.

In 2017, Spaeder attended Marine Corps University for a year, where they obtained a Master of Operational Studies degree. Their field of study during this time is unspecified.
