Dost Ali Khowaja has extensive experience in academia, currently serving as Academic Coordinator for the Faculty of Engineering at Dawood University of Engineering and Technology since August 2015 and previously in a similar role starting in February 2015. Prior to these positions, Khowaja dedicated over three decades to Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, where contributions included roles as Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture & Planning, Director of the Centre of Excellence in Arts & Design, and Chairman of the Department of City & Regional Planning. Khowaja holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Slums Katchi Abadies and Town and Regional Planning from the University of Strathclyde, earned between 1987 and 1992, and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, completed in 1979.

The foundation stone of the Dawood College of Engineering & Technology was laid by the former President of Pakistan (Late) Field Marshal Muhammad Ayub Khan in 1962. The College was established by Dawood Foundation under the supervision of Seth Ahmed Dawood in 1964.
