Rosan Smits

Deputy Editor-in-chief at De Correspondent

Rosan Smits has a diverse work experience, primarily focused on conflict research and policy-making. Rosan began their career as an intern at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where they gained knowledge about good governance, stability, and peace-building. Rosan then worked as a final editor for Synthese Magazine, where they managed a team of journalists and ensured high-quality content. Rosan then joined ICCO as a Political Advisor for Fragile States, where they managed research and advocacy projects in conflict situations and coordinated partnerships with NGOs, policymakers, and the private sector. Rosan also worked as a Consultant for the International Crisis Group, researching and reporting on political dynamics in Southern Sudan. Rosan later joined the Conflict Research Unit at Clingendael Institute as a Research Fellow and eventually became the Deputy Director, specializing in the political economy of instability and insecurity, gender, and state-building in fragile environments. Most recently, they held the positions of Editor-in-chief and Deputy Editor-in-chief at De Correspondent.

Rosan Smits obtained their Msc. degree in Political Science with a focus on International Relations from the University of Amsterdam. Rosan attended the university from 2000 to 2005.
