Cheryl Sesler

Cheryl Sesler has a diverse range of work experience in the scientific and research fields. Starting in 2005, they worked as an Assistant Hall Director at the University of Tennessee at Martin. In 2007, they became an Adjunct Instructor at the same university and continued in this role until 2008. From 2008 to 2010, Cheryl served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Jacksonville State University. In 2009, they interned at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a Biological Science Technician, where they worked on designing and optimizing TaqMan qPCR assays. Cheryl also worked as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2007 and 2008.

In 2010, Cheryl joined Jefferson State Community College as an Adjunct Microbiology Instructor and stayed until the end of 2011. During this time, they also started working at The University of Alabama at Birmingham as a Research Assistant. Cheryl'sresponsibilities included conducting experiments related to bone development and prostate cancer bone metastasis, as well as lab management tasks.

In 2013, Cheryl transitioned to Diatherix Laboratories, where they held multiple roles. As an R&D Research Associate, they designed, optimized, and validated molecular laboratory developed tests for clinical pathogen detection. In their subsequent role as an R&D Staff Scientist, Cheryl focused on developing and evaluating an analytical validation process for gene expression assays and designing multiplex PCR assays for the detection of necrotic wounds. From 2015 to 2018, they served as the R&D Senior Staff Scientist, leading diagnostic development and implementation projects to expand infectious disease diagnostics. Cheryl also managed a staff scientist and collaborated with external partners.

In 2019, Cheryl took on the role of ASM Young Ambassador - Alabama at the American Society for Microbiology, representing the organization and participating in various activities until 2021. Concurrently, they joined Eurofins ARCA Technology, Inc in 2019 as a Senior R&D Scientist, where they worked until 2020. In this position, Cheryl was involved in product research and development, focusing on assay development for IVD products. From 2020 to 2021, they served as the Manager of IVD Product Development - Assay, overseeing development projects. In their final role at Eurofins ARCA Technology, Inc, Cheryl was the Product Research and Development Manager, responsible for managing research and development projects.

Cheryl's most recent work experience is at Decode Health, where they started in 2022 as an Associate Director of Research, contributing to research initiatives.

Cheryl Sesler completed their education at Jacksonville State University from 2008 to 2010, earning a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Molecular Biology. Prior to that, from 2003 to 2007, they attended the University of Tennessee at Martin, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology.
