Data Scientist at Decode Health

Mahesh Rao has a diverse work experience in the field of data science and analytics. Mahesh started their career as a PhD Graduate Student at Vanderbilt University, where they focused on studying mechanisms related to retinal regeneration in zebrafish. Mahesh then worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where they analyzed large gene expression datasets to identify important relationships in retinal development.

After their research work, Mahesh transitioned into industry and joined Amira Learning as a Data Scientist. Here, they developed machine learning models for error detection in utterances and collaborated with various teams to integrate text-to-speech and AWS services.

Mahesh also worked at Nashville Software School in multiple roles. Mahesh served as a Data Analytics Jumpstart Instructor, guiding students in learning introductory data analytics tools with python and SQL. Mahesh was also a Data Analytics Instructor for the Data Analytics Bootcamp, where they helped students build their skills through lectures and projects. Additionally, they held the position of Data Analytics and Data Science Program Manager, taking care of the student experience from initial contact to graduation, coordinating admissions decisions, projects, and guest instructors.

Recently, Mahesh joined Decode Health as a Data Scientist.

Mahesh Rao's education history begins in 2006 when they attended Carleton College. Mahesh obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Biology (Neuroscience) in 2010. After that, from 2010 to 2016, they pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biological and Biomedical Sciences at Vanderbilt University. In 2017, they obtained a certification as a CIRTL Associate from The CIRTL Network. Finally, in 2018, they briefly attended Nashville Software School to study Data Science, although no specific degree was mentioned.
