Ph.D., DSc, Full professor of Computer Science. He is the Director of the Institute of Informatics at the University of Warsaw. His research concerns algorithmics, in particular algorithmic graph theory and parallel, and distributed computing. He has published over 60 scientific papers and is a co‑author of the popular academic coursebook Algorithms and Data Structures. Since 1993, he has been a member of the Polish General Committee of the Informatics Olympiad and subsequently starting in 1999 he has been the Chairman of the Committee. A member of the prestigious Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and Computer Science Committee at the Polish Academy of Sciences. He heads many initiatives related to the Informatics Olympiad and has been an educator of many generations of top Polish computer scientists. Thanks to his support, Polish students have won the International Olympiad in Informatics twice and the world finals of ACM ICPC: 2003 in Beverly Hills and 2007 in Tokyo. In 2005, he organized the International Olympiad in Informatics in Poland. In 2012, along with Prof. Jan Madey, he organized the world finals of ACM ICPC in Poland.
