Maggie Dewane

Director Of Communications at Defenders of Wildlife

Maggie Dewane has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Maggie began their career as a Legislative Research Assistant in the Pennsylvania State Senate in 2009. Maggie later became an Executive Assistant to a Senator and Projects Specialist in the United States Senate from 2010 to 2012.

In 2012, Maggie joined Columbia University as a Communications Intern at the Earth Institute and as an Online Senior Editor at the Journal of International Affairs. Maggie continued their work at Columbia University until 2013.

From 2013 to 2017, Maggie served as a Communications and Press Officer at the Environmental Investigation Agency US. Maggie then interned at the Council on Environmental Quality in the Executive Office of the President, The White House for a few months in 2013.

In 2014, Maggie joined the Marine Stewardship Council as the US Communications Manager, where they worked until 2019.

In 2020, Maggie worked at The Lincoln County News as a Copyeditor and Features Reporter from March to November. Maggie then joined the Center for Progressive Reform as a Digital Media Manager in November, and later became a Senior Digital Media Manager from May to August 2023.

Currently, Maggie is the Director of Communications at Defenders of Wildlife, a position they have held since August 2023.

Maggie Dewane earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Diplomacy and International Relations from Seton Hall University, graduating in 2009. Maggie then pursued a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree with a specialization in Environmental Science and Policy at Columbia | SIPA, completing their studies in 2013. In addition to their formal education, Maggie obtained certifications as a Panel Judge from the Maine Press Association in March 2020 and as a Climate Reality Leader from The Climate Reality Project in March 2019.
