Madeline Newman

Madeline Newman is an accomplished Senior Scientific Officer at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, specializing in animal health and welfare as the International Science Lead. Since October 2020, Madeline has been instrumental in coordinating the department's international animal health science programme and leading the STAR-IDAZ International Research Consortium on Animal Health, which addresses over 30 priority diseases and aims to enhance global animal health strategies. Prior experience includes roles as a project manager for the STAR-IDAZ IRC Secretariat and stakeholder engagement support at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. Additionally, Madeline contributed to wildlife management in Malawi by developing a comprehensive management plan and conducting statistical analyses related to human-elephant conflicts. Madeline holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with Honours in Zoology and a Master of Science in Environment and Development from The University of Edinburgh.
