Kelly McMichael

Deputy Chief Ast Solicitor General at DeKalb County Solicitor-General's Office

Kelly McMichael has a strong background in legal practice. Kelly started their career as an Intern at Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper in 2003. In 2004, they became an Attorney at Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor and worked there until 2006. Kelly then joined Dougherty Circuit Public Defender as an Assistant Public Defender from 2006 to 2007. In 2007, they moved to the DeKalb County Solicitor-General's Office as an Assistant Solicitor-General. In 2012, they were promoted to Deputy Chief Assistant Solicitor-General. In 2017, they joined the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office as an Assistant District Attorney and later became the Director in October 2019.

Kelly McMichael attended Georgia State University from 1996 to 2000 and earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Political Science. From 2000 to 2003, they attended Vermont Law and Graduate School where they obtained a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree with a specialization in Law.

DeKalb County Solicitor-General's Office

The Office of the DeKalb County Solicitor-General, under the direction of Solicitor-General Donna Coleman-Stribling, prosecutes more than 13,000 misdemeanor crimes committed in DeKalb County each year. These cases include domestic violence, elder abuse, cruelty to children, vehicular homicide, drunk driving, harassment and stalking, trespassing and animal cruelty. This Office is also responsible for the prosecution of county ordinance violations, which combined with misdemeanors, affect the quality of life for DeKalb County’s more than 750,000 citizens.
