Shante Hastings has extensive work experience in the field of transportation, primarily with the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT). Shante started working at DelDOT in 2000 as a Project Engineer and held various positions throughout their tenure. These positions included Squad Manager, Assistant Maintenance Engineer, Chief of Performance Management, Acting Director of Finance, and Deputy Director of Transportation Solutions. In these roles, Shante was responsible for a range of tasks such as managing budgets, personnel actions, and innovation initiatives. Shante also served as the Department's liaison with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and played a key role in implementing performance management initiatives and project pipeline processes. In 2017, Shante became the Director of Policy and Performance, where they were responsible for implementing the Department's Performance Management initiative and serving as the Secretary's designee on national policy issues. In 2019, they were promoted to Chief Engineer, and in 2021, they took on the role of Deputy Secretary and Chief Engineer at DelDOT.

Shante Hastings attended the University of Delaware from 1996 to 2000, where they obtained a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree. Shante'sfield of study was focused on Transportation and Highway Engineering.
