Khee Poh Lam

Professor Lam is an educator, researcher, architect and consultant who specializes in life-cycle building information modeling and computational design support systems for total building performance analysis and building diagnostics. He teaches architectural design (with a focus on systems integration), building energy modeling, building controls and diagnostics as well as acoustics and lighting. He has completed many major funded research projects in Singapore and the USA, and findings are widely published. He serves as a member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Building Performance Simulation, (Taylor and Francis, UK), Building Simulation: An International Journal (Springer and Tsinghua University Press), and Buildings (MDPI AG, Switzerland).

He was a former member of the US Energy Foundation Board of Directors and contributed to a range of activities including green building codes and standards, education and training, as well as sustainable design demonstration projects in China. He was also a former Board member of the Global Buildings Performance Network (GBPN), a globally organized and regionally focused organization whose mission is to provide policy expertise and technical assistance to advance building energy performance and realize sustainable built environments for all. He is currently an Advisory Board member of the Singapore Centre for Liveable Cities, the Singapore Sustainability Academy, as well as Management Board member of the Institute of Real Estate Studies and Board member of the Smart Systems Institute in NUS.

He is a building performance consultant for several major award winning projects and certified green buildings in the private and public sectors in Singapore, China and USA. He was awarded the 2013 Alexander Schwarzkopf Prize for Technological Innovation from the US National Science Foundation “for exemplary research contribution to technology innovation and positive impact on technology, industry and the society as a whole”. He also received an IBM Faculty Award in 2010.

Professor Lam graduated from the University of Nottingham, UK with a B Arch (Hons) Degree and holds a PhD (Architecture) from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. He is a licensed architect (UK) and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He is a tenured professor at Carnegie Mellon University and is currently on leave to take up an appointment as Provost’s Chair Professor of Architecture and Building and Dean of the School of Design and Environment, the National University of Singapore.
